Alexandra Bircken
"Blondie" Silk Scarf
Digital print on oversized silk scarf by artist Alexandra Bircken as part of the Artist Edition series from Berlin-based fashion line Little Red Riding Hood.

Bircken (born 1967) studied Fashion at London-based Saint Martins College of Art & Design, wehere she also had an appointment to teach before her first exhibitions at BQ Gallery Cologne. Her individual sculptural language reveals Bircken's deep understanding of the materials she employs and a highly sensitive approach to both natural and artificial materials. Bircken's sculptures contain references to fashion and consumer culture, and transfer mechanic methods of operating into a pop-cultural context.

For her 2010 exhibition "Blondie" at Koelnischer Kunstverein, which this scarf is inspired by, Bircken developed sculptures and wall art from wood, hair, or wool, whose quintessential element is the point at which a functional item is transformed into an aesthetic object.

Digital printed high-grade silk scarf, 110cmx110cm (approx 43" x 43"), limited edition of 100+ 11AP, 2009.
