Atherton Lin
Stand Up Straight 2010 Calendar

Jamie Atherton and Jeremy Lin's 2010 wall calendar is entitled Stand Up Straight. The watercolour illustrations look like they come from a children's book, but the themes are more grown up, such as ennui or getting the hots. The six main Atherton Lin characters take shape this year, less of a mystery than in last year's edition, but still nameless and always hiding their faces from view. Starting with a New Year's resolution — to stand up straight — we follow these six friends through 12 months of letter writing, music mixes, childhood fears, old stereo equipment and perhaps a parallel universe. The days of the year are told through the characters' new experiences, fantastical childhood memories, correspondences and personal record collections. Certain months are set up with an inventive format: For instance, August is a printer's tray displaying souvenirs, and the days of December read like the squares of a comic strip. The annual wall calendar root the Atherton Lin stories — an open-ended, elliptical narrative that weaves through all our designs.

This year's calendar measures at 297 mm high x 230 mm wide, litho printed with vegetable-based inks on heavy matte 100% recycled paper. Their London-based printer is a co-operative organization that uses renewable energy.
